United Methodist Women

The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church.
The emblem for UMW is the the same as that used by Women’s societies and Wesleyan Service guilds during the past quadrennium.  It affirms our continuity as women organized for mission, even as its symbolism affirms our newness and renewal.
The emblem combines ancient symbols of the church dating back to the days of Christ and Pentecost.  The cross and a flame symbolizing the Holy Spirit evoke images of sacrifice, witness, and service. “I now remind you to stir into flame the gift of God which is within you…”   -II Timothy 1: 16
